Shop Announcement: New Yarn Bases are Imminent

For a lot of reasons, I’ve been thinking about switching up some of my yarn bases, but hadn’t done so since I needed to buy them in bulk and I haven’t been dyeing back stock. However, for other reasons that I’ll soon make clear, it’s become time for me to make the switch, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.

These new bases are great quality and, better yet, they’re responsibly sourced. This means that the merino I’ll be using from here forward is never Australian merino, but South American merino. In addition, my new supplier works with the farmers to make sure sheep are treated ethically and are always cruelty free, and in some cases even provides education to help shepherds improve their practices. Beyond that, the Bluefaced Leicester I’ll be carrying is 100% British BFL that is of the highest quality and is sourced directly from the British Wool Marketing board.

So, all that said, here are the yarn bases I will be carrying from here forward. The BFL base names were chosen for the charming Leicester City Football Club (and one of my favourite football announcers who is a lifelong fan of the club). Their mascot is the Foxes and I wanted to honour the club of the place that brought us the breed. Go Foxes! The base name for my sparkle sock yarn is a nod to the northlands where I make my home. I went with “Northern Lights” to invoke the happy imagery of colours sparkling and twinkling through northern skies.

Our new yarns are:

Northern Lights Sock – 75% Superwash Merino/20% Nylon/5% Silver Stellina in fingering weight. 438yds (442m)/100g (3.5oz) skein. $30 US

Foxy Sock – 80% Superwash BFL/20% Nylon in fingering weight. 400yds (365m)/100g (3.5oz) skein. $28US

Foxy Sport – 100% Superwash BFL in sport weight. 287yds (263m)/100g (3.5oz) skein. $28US

Double Lolly DK – 100% Superwash BFL in DK weight. 246yds (225m)/100g (3.5oz) skein. $28US

Right now I’m focusing on only these four bases, although I still will have some things available in the old Merino single, wool worsted, and wool bulky bases as I try to phase them out. I may add some more in the future (thinking about an MCN and possibly some heavier weights if people seem to want them). However, focusing primarily on these yarns will allow me to dye up some yarn stock and better manage inventory so I can move away from a dye-to-order business model a bit. I’ll still always be willing to take custom colourway requests and will do whatever I am able to work out custom yarn base requests if those needs arise. For now, I hope you enjoy the changes. They will be the first of quite a few to come in the new year. I’m incredibly excited about all of them.

Do leave me a message with your thoughts on the new bases and suggestions for any bases you might like to see added in the future.

Thanks! Stay tuned for more announcements!
